Sarge's Writings

Although these stories are fiction, they are based on Sarge's experiences during his three tours of duty in Vietnam. Even the story about the Viet Cong soldier is based on things Sarge saw in the boonies the enemy had built and things the enemy did while Sarge was there. Sarge served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968, twenty six months, so he was able to see Vietnam from three very different assignments and perspectives.

His first tour of eleven months was in the jungle with the 101st Airborne Division doing mostly search and destroy missions. His second tour was at E Company Support Battalion at the base camp of the 101st Airborne Division and his third tour of duty was as a security guard with the elite Saigon Machine Gun Patrol.

Sarge's mission for his Seven Short Stories of the Vietnam War was to create plots that make the stories more exciting by going beyond his personal experiences.
